The Race to End Women’s Cancer This Weekend

November 5, 2009 in Be In The Know, Health, news by Sara

Mandy Moore Mandy Moore The Gynecological Cancer Foundation is sponsoring the inaugural Race to End Women's Cancer on Sunday, November 8, in Washington, DC.

According to the GCF, a woman gets a diagnosis of gynecological cancer every seven minutes. The race (a half-marathon, 5-K, or 1-mile walk) aims to raise money for cancer research and public awareness and education.

Singer and actress Mandy Moore, a spokesperson for GCF and GlaxoSmithKline, will start the race and will do the 1-mile walk alongside survivors and their families, physicians, nurses, and other gynecological cancer advocates. Donate, volunteer or participate in the race.

Come back in January for more from Mandy Moore. It's Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, and she'll be talking with WH about why the cause is so important to her.

Eat HealthyForty-seven percent of employees say office snack options keep them from eating healthily, according to a survey of 500 cubicle dwellers by the online grocery store Peapod.

Or go with veggies that don't need to be refrigerated: avocados, grape or cherry tomatoes, peppers, and sugar snap peas.

Here's what else people said about eating healthily during the 9 to 5:

63 percent think eating healthily at work is a challenge

36 percent say their company provides access to fruits and vegetables

35 percent say their company provides access to candy

28 percent are satisfied with the healthy snack options at work
